Can someone please remind me of the plant app that will help me not kill these plants? This is literally a matter of life or death 🥹🪴 NO PRESSURE.

Also, this is what happened, we went to a nursery on Saturday to pick out one new plant and we bought six, naturally. DO NOT WORRY. These plants asked us to take them home with us so we did. We had no choice. This is just being a responsible adult.

While we were at the nursery there was an author event and we met @delaplants! We bought her book Houseplants for Beginners. She was so lovely. Her book is stunning. We had her sign the copy we bought with the following, “Bri & Jer you got this!” And honestly I think we do ☺️ Also crowd sourcing plant names. Ok thank you 🪴

Favorite Way to Cut a Bell Pepper🫑 Get maximum

Favorite Way to Cut a Bell Pepper🫑
Get maximum pepper without the seeds, stem or white pithy parts!

1. Cut along the top, but not all the way thru
2. Twist and pull the cap!
3. Cut in between the white parts
4. Slice or dice how you see fit!

Best way to thaw meat day of! 🧊🥩🍗🥓
Throw your wrapped meat (do not unwrap it!) into a big bow of water. Make sure it is submerged. Place back in fridge for 4-5 hours and it will be thawed!

For reasons I cannot quite explain, I decided a few weeks ago that I was going to master homemade fried fish 🥲 I did the research, I put in the hours, I watched way too many videos of people with delightful accents making fried fish and smashed peas. My favorite part was when the fish was wrapped in newspaper.

Homemade tartar sauce is a must. I am here to tell you I nearly drank this sauce. And the next day I put leftovers on a sandwich and had myself a delightful Filet-O-Fish experience. Extra sauce.

This over the sink, roll up rack is becoming my new obsession. I use it for so much more than drying dishes👇

Hi, I am just dropping in to say that I have forgotten how to show up here. Mostly because I have forgotten how to show up anywhere. Life feels very, very fluid right now. I would like a solid piece of land but alas I am on what seems to be some floating shiplap (it’s painted pretty tho).

I’m trying to discern exactly what is happening. Is this a survival situation? Should I be planning for rescue? Do I need to like, catch some fish or something? Or is this a season of rest? Should I just, sleep and sunbathe? But wait…the skin cancer. Do I have SPF? Does skin cancer matter if I am lost at sea? Will someone please tell me what to do with my hands?

I hope it’s just me. But if you are feeling a little misplaced right now, come join me on my driftwood because there is room (I am looking at you Rose from the Titanic… THERE WAS ROOM FOR JACK). I digress …

I don’t have any quick hacks or tips to move us out of this space because I think it is important. I think I am here for a reason and I don’t like it but I’m hopeful for what it means. To be here, a little lost. A little curious.

I think sometimes being moved outside of comfort or certainty can feel so cruel. But I am starting to understand it is as a grand and unfathomable act of Love.

What I do have are these borrowed words from John O’Donohue
“The path you took to get here is washed out
The way forward is still concealed from you.
The old is not old enough to die away;
The new is still too young to be born…
What is being transfigured here is your mind,
And it is difficult and slow to become new.”

I had some (but not a lot) leftover tomato soup from a date night and I also had a nub (a knob?) of baguette. So naturally I put a little grilled cheese cap on the soup 😅 NO REGRETS.

1. Greek Chickpeas with Parsley and Cumin. Excited to make a quick Greek platter with these!
2. Chicken Asada with Grilled Peppers and Onions. Perfect for a quick meal! 🌮
3. Soffritto Seasoning Blend! Perfect for using as a dipping spices with olive oil and bread.
4. Frozen Mini Baguettes - going to use this as my dipping bread for a cheese platter. 🥖
5. Unexpected Cheddar Cheese Spread. Spreading these on everything BRB. 🧀
6. Chives! They look so fresh and green! 🧅
7. Cracked Olive Salad. I can’t tell if I will love or hate this. WE SHALL SEE🥲

This last week I was in Nashville with these beaut

This last week I was in Nashville with these beauties for our annual mastermind trip!

@laura.tremaine @jamiebgolden @thelazygenius and I have been consistently meeting monthly over zoom and annually in person for 4 years!

These women are a major reason, maybe the reason, I’m still here on the internet today. We propel each other forward, help each other pivot, bring witness to wins, and catch every single word …big and small. We say yes to each other over and over again. We keep showing up.

This trip was a little different because it was a fun trip! We did lots of eating and shopping and laughing. Favorites (DO NOT MISS THE LAST PHOTO)👇

🏩Staying at The Graduate hotel. Dolly was everywhere. Also Jamie’s room was right across from mine. Every time I came out of my room there she was. We’d squeal. Sorry to rooms 320 and 323 for any disturbance. But also, you’re welcome.

🖨️Taking the Hatch tour and actually messing up the very small craft activity they had for us (I knew I would, I even looked at Laura before I went up and said, watch me mess this up). Please note the employee behind me pointing to where I was supposed to put the ink. I am not a craft girlie. I will make you the best drink of your life but do not hand me acrylics 🙅‍♀️

🛍️We shopped 12 South on the coldest day but for a Sneaky Snack™️ (as trade marked by Jamie) we stopped into a burger joint for a FLIGHT OF FRIES. And Laura took this photo of her burger but the real gem of this photo is Kendra and me in the background.

🐻Jeremy rented a Tesla while I was gone and sent me this photo of him and Stout at a charging station. This doesn’t really have to do with the Nashville trip but why would I withhold this from you?! 🥹

🍾I tricked these ladies into having dinner one night at 5:00pm because I go to bed at 9:00pm (just kidding we couldn’t get a later reservation … 😏). Anyway we got back to the hotel and went to the rooftop bar where Jamie and I took champagne Jell-O shots. Jamie and I are clearly Jell-O shot experts as you can see.

Pot Roast Sandwich | Leftover Glow-Up Series Part 1

Watch me take leftover pot roast and this neglected loaf of baguette and turn it into the most delicious sandwich!

I buttered my baguette and added some parmesan cheese and broiled. Next, the ingredient that gives this sandwich her glow-up, horseradish situation. Generous spread. More than generous, you know? Re-heat pot roast. I had micro greens that were begging me to use them. Drizzle of EVOO, salt (please season your sandwiches! this is not the time to forget about salt), freshly cracked pepper. EAT.

For the Horseradish Spread:
2 TBS Mayo
1 tsp horseradish
Juice from lemon wedge
Sprinkle of salt

Mix and taste! Add more horseradish or citrus to your liking!

Leftover soup, but poured over a roast😏

For Soup Sunday I made a double batch of my creamy mushroom soup and the next day I poured the rest of that soup over my roast (swipe for photo). Soup is magical in all its forms 🪄

This soup is so creamy and decadent. It is rich and cozy. It’s simple with a big pay off. It is like being invited to sit by a fire on a cold night. I should have called it Liquid Gold. It deserves its own show. Am I going to hard for this?!😅

Next up, going to pour this soup over chicken breasts in my slow cooker. Cook low and slow and then serve it over mashed potatoes.

After that I’m going to crumble crispy sausage into it and serve it over biscuits. No regrets. Only vibes. Stay tuned. TBD. (Recipe for soup is linked in bio.)

Step 1: Go to events in your area
Last night Jeremy and I went to a French wine tasting class at a local wine bar. There were shared tables and we sat down next to another couple. Through the night as we sipped wine, I kept asking questions. I wanted to know everything. They were so lovely. I wanted to see them more. The night was ending and I was like, ok, now is not the time to play hard to get.

Step 2: Shoot your shot
I did what every desperate person would do, I looked up at Kat and I said, “I need friends. Will you be my friend? I need you to give me your number and I am going to call you and I am being serious.” She laughed and told me she’d love to be my friend. She wrote down her number, she slid it across the table and said, “Use it.” Jeremy and her partner also exchanged numbers. They made plans to go running. Kat and I made plans to eat and drink wine.

That’s it. It’s a 2 step process that takes some vulnerability and some showing up. Also, it’s quite a compliment isn’t it? For someone to ask you to be their friend. I hope I ask so many more people here. When they look back a few years from now, I hope they are delighted and grateful that a small blonde girl with a messy bun asked not for a cup of sugar, and not for recommendations on places to eat, but for friendship.

Simple little bean quesadillas🥹
You all I am not doing anything groundbreaking here. Leftover refried beans in a tortilla. I mean that combo is groundbreaking but sometimes I get in my head about posting uncomplicated food here because it has to be NEW or DIFFERENT or WITH A TWIST! And while I do love those things, sometimes I just want to put beans in a soft tortilla and share it with you all😌

Here’s to the simple food. Here’s to uncomplicated deliciousness.

Cornbread Croutons (but from the can)!
Anytime I have chili I want cornbread but bite-size and like, super simple 🥲

I use the can of Pillsbury Cornbread swirls to make these. It’s fast and so yummy!

Unravel swirl so you have one long strip. Cube them to your desired dimensions. Place on sheet tray and bake for 375 degrees for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown (keep your eye on them if they are smaller!). I usually throw mine in the toaster oven.

Smoked Old Fashioned!
And the best Christmas gift giver this year goes to … 🥁… me. I got this smoker for Jeremy for making smoked cocktails and it is so much fun plus delicious. Also, who is really winning here because he is the one who makes me the cocktails😅 here’s to gifting smarter not harder my friends!

Furthermore, every time Jeremy makes someone an Old Fashioned they tell him it’s the best they ever had 🤩 for your enjoyment The McKoy👇

🥃2 oz rye whiskey
🍯2 tsp honey simple syrup
💦1 tsp cold water
🍊3 dashes orange or aromatic bitters
orange peel
🍒1 bourbon-soaked cherries (for garnish)

1. In a mixing glass filled with ice, add all ingredients except orange peel and cherries.
2. Stir with a long spoon for several seconds.
3. In an Old Fashioned glass, add a large ice sphere. Using a strainer, pour from the mixing glass into the Old Fashioned glass.
4. Take the orange peel and rub it around the rim of the Old Fashioned glass. Add orange peel and cherries to garnish!

This is what Christmas looked like for us🥹 (For starters we didn’t travel. My next trip isn’t until February and I don’t want to see my suitcase until then.)
And so …👇
1. I started taking selfies by the tree because Jeremy was taking too long to make it to the gift opening phase of Christmas morning.
2. Our first Christmas card ever which was sent to Cook’s Club members in our holiday card exchange 🎄
3. Christmas dinner was steak and crab legs because it always is.
4. We had to get Stout a SWEATER because the temp dropped to -6 and (proceed to next line item)…
5. It snowed outside AND INSIDE our home ❄️Listen we knew we’d have to replace some of the windows in this home but this really was the confirmation we needed 🙃
6 & 7. Two of the most unique gifts I got! A Popcorn & Champagne ornament from a Cook’s Club member and my assistant @katiecreatey painted this photo of Stout for me 😍
8. We have an after Christmas dinner tradition which is roast chicken (so easy and leftover chicken is for BBQ pizza) and LISTEN TO ME, I knew I couldn’t make pan sauce because there was a lot of citrus in the pan drippings and a lot of chicken fat but I thought I’d try, it did break but the flavor was ON POINT, so I called it gravy relish and still put it on the chicken and Jeremy said it’s the best sauce he’s ever had 😅 If your pan sauce breaks but it’s still delicious, this is the new route. Gravy relish.
9. Jeremy’s Christmas gift (more on that later).

Spice Drawer!
I have wanted a spice drawer for so long but never had room for a drawer dedicated to spices until now 🤩

Reasons I love this spice drawer and these spice jars:
🫙Very easy to see what the spices/dried herbs are.
🥄The bigger containers have a nice wide mouth so my Tablespoons fit.
🏷️The printed labels look so clean and clear.
🛒I am now going to buy all my spices from one of my favorite spice shops but get them in the bag (instead of a jar) so I can easily refill my new jars!

This is still in progress as I wanted to first see if I liked these jars. I do! I’m going to get more 😁 Where are your spices?!

Can confirm the new sous vide chicken thighs from Trader Joe’s are 🔥 Sauté for 8 minutes. You can do so much with these but I did a quick little Mediterranean bowl with hummus, veggies, and deconstructed tzatziki 😅 (dollop of Greek yogurt, squeeze of fresh lemon juice, salt, sliced cucumbers on the side). Doing the least before Christmas. Thank you.
